The new T Davit - Why is it ideal for Rope Access scenarios and more

The new T DAVIT for Rope Access has been specifically designed to meet the requirements of BS8610:2017 Personal Fall Protection Equipment Anchor Systems in addition to EN795:2012 and IRATA’s International Code of practice.

The davit is are available in three different variants, each are suitable for fall arrest, rope access and work positioning. Each davit can be placed in our top mount and side mount steel sockets to provide a complete BS8610 anchor system.

Key Features of the T Davit:

  • Two-piece aluminium construction for ease of transportation and assembly.

  • The product can be easily stowed in a carry bag which is included as standard.

  • No element of the davit is welded eliminating the potential for weld fatigue and catastrophic failure of the product. Benign failure is a built-in feature of our products, ensuring the highest levels of safety for the user.

  • The davit can rotate 360 degrees, assisting set-up and attachment, as well as initial descent from the leading edge.

  • The davit is designed with a 65mm kingpin, which incorporates two parented bearings enabling rotation possible even when the davit is loaded.

  • Clean anodised finish and powder coated system for increased corrosion resistance.

  • Fixings are zinc plated as standard, but we can offer a full stainless steel fixing upgrade as well as a marine specification upgrade should that be required.

  • The davit comes with an integral tether that secures the davit to the socket, ensuring that the davit cannot be removed without at least two consecutive and deliberate actions.

Now let’s look at the features of the different product variants:

1m radius T DAVIT for Rope Access

Our 1m radius davit is tested to and conforms with the requirements of BS8610:2017 and offers a maximum system rating of 230kg and maximum rated mass per user of 115kg when the davit is used by 2 people in a rescue accompanied descent.

If the davit is rigged for rescue the maximum rated mass is 150kg.

Key features

  • BS8610 fully compliant – Type A4 Rescue Accompanied Descent, EN795:2012 certified and meets the requirements of IRATA ICOP.

  • Two beam positions – Position A and Position B. Position B reduces the radius by approximately 75mm.

  • EN795:2012 anchor point in between the cheek plates for attachment of 1 person for fall arrest. This facilitates transition to the shackle head or provides an elevated anchor point for a second person.

  • Two independent anchor points at the rear of the column for attachment of the working and safety lines which can be rigged for remote operated rescue.  The ropes then feed through the sheaves at the rear of the davit, through the beam and then through double sheaves at the front of the davit.

  • Two shackles on the davit head for attachment of the working and safety lines, which can be rigged for rescue accompanied descent if required.

This configuration has been specifically designed for rescue accompanied descent If required.

1.2m & 1.6 radius T DAVIT for Rope Access

Our 1.6m and 1.2m radius davit offer a maximum system rating and maximum rated mass per user of 150kg.

The davit is suitable for 1 user for rope access, and 1 user attached to the elevated anchor point for fall protection.

Key features

  • BS8610 fully compliant, EN795:2012 certified and meets the requirements of IRATA ICOP.

  • Two beam positions – Position A and Position B. Position B reduces the radius by approximately 115mm in the 1.6m variant and 100mm in the 1.2m variant.

This configuration enables a second person to carry out a remote operated rescued from a position of safety without loading the davit.

In addition, the 1.2m radius davit has been specifically designed to be used with the PORTABASE Counterbalance system. This full system set-up is tested to EN795 type B and meets the requirements of the IRATA ICOP.
